COVID Mask

Current and ongoing photography project.

Constructed March 2020, the paper mâché mask featured in these photos is created with wheat paste infused with the same anti-bacterial/anti-fungal/anti-viral herbs and oils used during the 14th century plague.

I originally made the mask at the beginning of the pandemic as a way to make sense of what was going on; Spring 2020 also coincided with the heartbreaking closing of the STUD and I found myself making a performance video tribute to a place that nurtured my need for queer cruising, dancing, drag and community. This photo series is a continuation of that video project.
